At the time, it was indicated that Netflix tried to court Cregger to direct, but the two sides had reached an impasse over Netflix not wanting to do a theatrical release – and Cregger wouldn't get on board unless he got a firm one. Cregger moved on, filming his new take on RESIDENT EVIL due this Fall and developing a WEAPONS prequel spin-off centered on Amy Madigan's Oscar-winning turn as Aunt Gladys.

Now though, the World of Reel web site is reporting that after months of discussions, Cregger and Netflix have reportedly reached a deal for THE FLOOD to potentially be his next film. A decision hasn't been made yet, but Cregger is aiming to shoot something this Fall. Their source suggests Cregger's film could potentially get the kind of theatrical rollout the company has planned for Greta Gerwig's NARNIA film this Fall.

THE FLOOD follows a deep-space exploration team aboard the vessel Spiritus Mundi. They pick up a strange, recurring signal from a remote planet and investigate – only to discover a bizarre alien artifact that starts warping time, reality, and the crew's minds. (thanks to DarkHorizons.com)

NEON will be co-producing the film with Good Fear Content. Mitchell is producing with Jake Weiner and Chris Bender of Good Fear Content, as well as the original producers of It Follows, David Kaplan, Erik Rommesmo, Rebecca Green, and Laura Smith.

Make Monroe said THEY FOLLOW is her "next job" during an interview with Josh Horowitz. She added that the script is "very dark" – and if Horowitz thought IT FOLLOWS was an 8 or 9 out of 10 on the "effed up scale," then THEY FOLLOW will be a 15 or 16. "We're pushing the boundaries on this one for sure."

She previously told Discussing Film, "I was sent the script and I thought it was incredible. It's also very different from the original. I felt the original was a litle more heightened and dramatic, and this I think is really quite grounded. (The sequel) follows the story of these two women that are just mentally dealing with a lot. I thought it was a really interesting take on it." (thanks to JoBlo.com)

** R.I.P. Jamie Blanks: Australian filmmaker Jamie Blanks has died, the Melbourne-raised director passed away at the age of 54. On Friday morning, Blanks' family issued a statement on X announcing his death saying: "His death was unexpected, despite some ill health in recent years. It comes at a time when Jamie was preparing to direct another film. He was still very active supporting other film-makers and developing his own projects."

Blanks rose to fame when he missed out on the job of directing SCREAM. When the script for I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER came by his desk, he wanted to show producers what he could do. Spending $3,000 and calling in favours, he created a faux trailer for the film which was very well received – trouble is they had already hired Jim Gillespie to direct the film.

They promised they would find something for him, and nine months later came back with URBAN LEGEND which proved a hit – the Alicia Witt, Jared Leto, Tara Reid and Joshua Jackson-led film grossing more than $70 million worldwide. Impressive for a 26-year-old filmmaker with only one student film and a faux trailer under his belt. He followed that up with 2001's VALENTINE which didn't fare as well. A few years later he helmed a pair of Aussie horror films – the killer bogan movie STORM WARNING and the Jim Caviezel-led remake of 1970s psychothriller classic LONG WEEKEND. Tubi boss Adam Lewinson added, "Few storytellers have shaped the horror genre for young audiences as profoundly as R.L. Stine, and his work continues to find new life with each generation. Given the breakout success of PUMPKINHEAD, we're going deeper into this mythology and continuing our commitment to fans of young adult horror." (thanks to ComingSoon.net)

** TERRIFIER 4: From director Damien Leone;

Hey guys! Since there's so much TERRIFIER 4 speculation and false information out there, I wanted to drop in and give an official update.

The script is very close to completion, and I'm hoping to begin pre-production this spring. This is the most precious script I've written for many reasons, but it's also the most challenging. There's a lot of material to tackle and a lot riding on this one, not just creatively but emotionally.

We've built something special together over the years. The cast and crew who have been here since the beginning deserve a finale that honors their dedication, and the fans who've championed this franchise deserve something unforgettable.

In all honesty, I'm thrilled with the way it's turning out and confident it will deliver. I will officially announce when the script is complete on my social media pages which also means we'll be moving into pre-production. If you don't see it coming from or confirmed by me, then it's not official.

Thank you for your patience. I promise it will be worth the wait! "Stay Terrified!!"

** SCREAM 7: Despite the worst reviews of the series, and a B- CinemaScore from audiences, Paramount and Spyglass' SCREAM 7 came in atop the box-office, beating all pre-release expectations. The Neve Campbell-led title pulled in a $64.1 million domestic opening and a further $33.1 million overseas for a $97.2 million global debut. Around $7.1 million of that global total came from IMAX alone.

Those numbers are way ahead of the $44 million domestic and $60 million worldwide projected totals last week. Domestically, it's also the best horror opening ever for Paramount, and the best opening ever for a February horror movie. The film was created with a final production budget of $45 million, meaning it has more than doubled that already and should be quite profitable before it leaves cinemas. No actual names were mentioned, but Ellis has thoughts as to why people keep turning it down: "A couple of high-profile actors, whom I can't name, have turned it down. I think maybe because they don't want to be in the shoes of Christian Bale." (thanks to DarkHorizons.com)

** CRAWL 2: Out promoting his recent film SEND HELP, Sam Raimi tells The Wrap web site he's still hopeful the project is still alive and the studio will commit to making it:

"We've been trying to get a go from the studio, and they changed hands, Paramount Pictures did, and now the new group that's come in I've worked with before, the ladies and gentlemen that are great at development, and they're interested in CRAWL 2. That's all I could really say right now, is now I've got a new hope to make it.

It's a little bit, I think, embarrassing to make an alligator in the basement picture. I don't know if that's what their lofty ambitions were, but I think there's a crowd that loves those kinds of films, if they're well-made and honestly trying to make this suspenseful and scary and get to know the characters, if they're really trying to do that, there's nothing to be embarrassed about. Yes, it's a B movie, but it's a blast. I really like that kind of picture." (thanks to DarkHorizons.com)

Though he is producing, Powell won't star in the series. A movie also is in early development with the same producing team and ImageNation, but Mollner isn't attached to that one and previous reports suggesting a potential home at Netflix aren't so certain any more.

Powell says in a statement: "THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE is one of my favorite films," Powell said in a statement. "It defined a generation of horror films, and over half a century after its release, it remains one of the definitive movies of my home state. ** SAW XI: Confusion has bloomed following comments by acclaimed horror filmmaker James Wan at a special screening of 2004's SAW at the Sundance Film Festival. Over six months ago, Blumhouse successfully acquired the rights to the franchise while Wan's Atomic Monster label joined forces with Blumhouse recently – effectively bringing the SAW franchise back under Wan's purview.

Wan confirmed at the screening that the next film will serve as his comeback after nearly two decades of not being involved with the franchise, saying he and Whannell are heavily involved in the creative development of SAW XI:

"All I can say at this point is… we're gonna do one. We are going to make one. I don't want to say too much. It's very early still. Needless to say, the franchise has actually come back to Leigh and me. So we're very excited… yeah, that means a lot.

We want to hark back to the spirit of the original film. We want to be mindful and be respectful of what fans have learned about the soapy nature of the entire franchise. We know there's a lot of love for the world, but we definitely want to go back to the spirit of the first film. We want to make another scary SAW movie. That's the goal."
